Transform Old Windows into Art for a Cause

A paintbrush and a spark of imagination can transform ordinary objects into extraordinary art. In 2025, Energy Swing Windows wants to channel that creative potential into a life-changing cause. We’re excited to announce our new charity initiative, “Creating Breakthroughs One Window at a Time.” The goal is to repurpose old window sashes into beautiful works of art— a project in support the Western PA Chapter of Breakthrough T1D.

It’s a fundraiser that builds on Energy Swing Window’s long-standing commitment to making a difference when it comes to type 1 diabetes (T1D). Since 2009, we’ve raised over $140,000 in support of T1D research. In 2025, we’re taking our efforts to a new level, following in the footsteps of a successful Wisconsin-based project that turned discarded windows into works of art. They raised more than $180,000 for charity. Now, it’s Pittsburgh’s turn!

A Call for Pittsburgh Artists to Show Their Talent

Artists can ignite their best ideas by stepping out of their comfort zones. The project challenges artists to transform old windows into art for type one diabetes. They will work with a Pittsburgh area home window that has weathered changing seasons. Each layer of paint, collage, or mosaic glass pushes artistic boundaries and creates hope for families facing T1D. Artists will reimagine composition, color, and storytelling through these unique canvases.

Community Visibility and Recognition

Energy Swing will feature participating artists and their artwork across multiple platforms. The website, social media updates, and final exhibition will highlight local creatives. Art enthusiasts will learn about these talented individuals. This high-profile charitable event could open doors to new contacts and opportunities.

Partnering with Breakthrough T1D

Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) has fought diabetes for over 50 years. They invest in research, advocate for policy changes, and support individuals. Energy Swing pledges to channel every dollar from repurposed window artwork into their mission. Their goal remains clear: cure, prevent, and treat type one diabetes.

The Process: From Old Windows to Breakthroughs 

Energy Swing replaces thousands of windows each year, and typically, the old sashes end up in landfills. In 2025, we’re diverting these sashes to local artists. Each sash will be cleaned and prepped, giving artists a “blank” yet character-filled surface to begin their work. This is where creativity takes center stage, and we encourage artists to push their artistic limits in crafting unique works that reflect their style in support of the T1D community.

Later in the year, our goal is to host an event where the completed window artworks will be displayed and auctioned. As the details of this event come together, we will keep both our participating artists and the community aware of how we can make the most of this incredible opportunity!
