Why steel

Why Pittsburgh Homeowners Choose Steel Doors

A steel door gives you strength and security at a budget-friendly price. ProVia’s Legacy door is built heavier than a typical steel door, and it comes in smooth steel or a woodgrain texture in the color you choose.

  • Strong and secure. 20-gauge steel with 49% more galvannealed steel than a standard 24-gauge door, plus a rigid composite lock block behind your lockset and deadbolt.
  • Budget-friendly. Steel usually costs less than fiberglass.
  • Your color, your look. Smooth or woodgrain-textured steel in ProVia paint colors and stains. ProVia warrants the paint finish for 10 years.
  • Energy efficient. A foam-filled core and thermal barrier help keep out Pittsburgh’s heat and cold. All ProVia entry doors without glass are ENERGY STAR certified, and most glass options qualify too.

How Legacy is built

Inside a ProVia Legacy Steel Door

Legacy is ProVia’s professional-class steel door. Here’s what’s inside:

  • 20-gauge steel skin. 49% more galvannealed steel than a standard 24-gauge door, for strength and rigidity.
  • One-piece steel edge. The edges and face are one continuous piece of steel.
  • Rigid composite lock block. Reinforces the area where your lockset and deadbolt mount.
  • Foam-filled core. Filled by a computer-controlled process for strength and energy efficiency.
  • Thermal barrier and interlocks. ProVia’s tab-and-slot mechanical interlocks add strength, and a thermal barrier cuts heat and cold transfer.
  • Composite top and bottom endcaps. Add rigidity and energy efficiency.
  • Z-AC threshold. An auto-adjusting riser that keeps the seal tight.

Steel or Fiberglass?

Steel is a strong, secure, budget-friendly choice that takes paint well. Fiberglass is the best fit if you want a more convincing wood look with very little upkeep. Read our Steel vs. Fiberglass Entry Doors guide for the full comparison, or see every option on our entry doors page.

Adding glass on the sides? Our front door replacement with sidelights guide covers options and costs.
